About Brow Lifts

Brow lifts are a surgical procedure that can restore a more refreshed appearance to the upper face by removing excess tissue and raising the position of your eyebrows.

The forehead is a central facial feature—it is often this area that is one of the primary expressors of emotion. (2) With time and gravity, the eyebrows can start to droop and descend as your skin becomes more inelastic. Other factors, such as genetics and lifestyle factors, can also impact the tissues of the upper face. (3)

Sagging eyebrow skin and deep lines can cause a tired, unhappy appearance, no matter how well-rested you feel. In some cases, sagging brows can cause the skin to push into the peripheral vision. When this happens, patients tend to unconsciously lift their brows up to see more fully—this only worsens the deep lines in the forehead.

My brow lift techniques address each of these concerns and more, allowing you to rejuvenate your appearance and essentially “turn back the clock.”

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for a brow lift if you are interested in rejuvenating the appearance of your brow region and forehead for a more youthful-looking appearance. A brow lift can effectively address several concerns, including:

  • Drooping or Sagging Brows
  • Obstructed Vision
  • Uneven or Asymmetrical Brows
  • Deep Forehead Wrinkles
  • Skin Laxity
  • An Aged or Tired Appearance
  • Glabellar Lines

To qualify for a brow lift, you should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding your procedure outcomes. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit nicotine for an extended period of time.

I will consider your candidacy during your personal consultation and make sure a brow lift is a good fit for you.

Personal Consultation

No two patients are the same, which is why you will meet with me for a personal consultation before we proceed with your brow lift. During this consultation, we will talk about your medical history, aesthetic goals, and personal concerns. I will also assess your facial anatomy and skin quality, then use these details to create a one-of-a-kind solution for each of your concerns, delivering a more youthful-looking appearance you can enjoy for years to come.

If you are ready to start revitalizing your appearance, please schedule a consultation. If you would prefer scheduling over the phone or have further questions, please call your preferred office:

Preparation

After your consultation, I will give you a set of comprehensive instructions to help you prepare for your brow lift. These instructions may vary depending on the details of your treatment plan, but each one will help you ensure a successful procedure and the most stunning results. I may advise you to:

  • Refrain from taking medications or supplements that may thin your blood.
  • Arrange transportation for your procedure.
  • Prepare to take time away from your career and other commitments.
  • Discontinue any nicotine use in the weeks before your procedure and maintain your abstinence until you achieve a full recovery.
  • Fill any prescriptions you may need beforehand so you have them ready.

Procedure

I perform brow lifts at our accredited surgical center. These procedures take approximately one hour, but the exact duration of your procedure will depend on your treatment plan.

Before I begin your brow lift, you will receive the appropriate anesthesia. Once you are comfortable, I will employ one of three surgical techniques: the endoscopic approach, lateral approach, or coronal.

Lateral Approach

For the lateral approach, I place an incision along or within the hairline, depending on whether you are also simultaneously getting a facelift. I then elevate the soft tissue along the subcutaneous plane to the lateral orbital rim to allow for elevation of the lateral tail of the eyebrow. This approach is best for patients who have a sagging lateral eyebrow.

Endoscopic Approach

When performing the endoscopic approach, I use several small incisions within the hairline. With the use of endoscopic instruments and dissolving clips, I elevate and reposition the underlying structures of your eyebrows and forehead. I will also excise the redundant skin. This technique is considered to be less invasive.

Coronal Approach

For the coronal approach, I place an incision within the hairline (from ear to ear) to hide its visibility. (4) I then lift your tissues and remove loose or lax skin. This approach is best for patients with more advanced forehead sagging.

Recovery

After your brow lift, you will need to take some time away from work and your other responsibilities to focus on your recovery. You may experience some transient side effects as you heal, including swelling, bruising, or tenderness. These effects will gradually dissipate as you continue to heal, but if you wish, you may manage them using a cold compress, medications Dr. Berlet prescribes, and getting plenty of rest.

You may return to desk work and other light activities after resting for approximately a week, if Dr. Berlet approves. However, you will need to continue refraining from physically demanding and other strenuous tasks until Dr. Berlet has cleared you to return.

I will provide you with a full set of detailed post-operative instructions during your consultation to help you care for yourself as you heal.

Results

You will be able to experience the full results of your brow lift once you have fully recovered and any residual swelling has dissipated. You will be able to enjoy smoother and tighter skin, as this procedure removes any looseness and laxity from around the upper face. This procedure will also smooth any wrinkles, creases, fine lines, and other visible signs of aging around the forehead and brows, leaving you with a more refreshed and youthful-looking appearance.

The results of a brow lift are long-lasting, with many former patients experiencing the effects of their procedure for years. To maintain your rejuvenated appearance, I recommend wearing sunscreen when leaving the house and adhering to an effective skincare routine.

Corresponding Procedures

Blepharoplasty

I can integrate other procedures into your treatment plan to complement the results of your brow lift, one of which is a blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure that removes excess skin and tissue from the eyelids to revitalize the appearance around your lower and upper eyelids. When performing this procedure, I excise drooping eyelid skin, remove excess fat, and tighten weakened muscles to restore a more alert and youthful-looking appearance.

I invite you to read my blog to learn more about the other procedures that I can perform alongside your brow lift.
